Frequently Asked Questions for FrontPage

Our template packages come bundled with a tiny
program designed to install your template directly into the proper
directories on your computer. You will receive the template files,
theme, graphics, sample pages, and the End User License Agreement
along with any supporting documentation. |
 |
|
 |
Templates are very flexible and are designed so
that you can add or remove as many pages as you like. Our designers
normally include instructions for the best way to add or remove pages
from that specific template. |
 |
|
 |
In order to use your template, you must create a
new web using the template. After installation is completed, open
FrontPage and go to File | New | Web. Select the appropriate web
template from the list of choices (you will see your new template in
the list). Give your new web a name, then select OK or Apply.
FrontPage then creates a multi-page web based on the template you
have selected. When you click on the Navigation View icon, you will
see your navigation structure and can begin editing your pages by
substituting your text for that within the template pages. |
 |
|
 |
Our template packages may be used for both
commercial and personal use. Because we provide products from many
different designers, licensing agreements may vary. Some designers
may allow you to use the template for more than one site, while
others require you to purchase a new license for additional sites.
Please see the products license agreement for specific details and
restrictions. |
 |
|
 |
No, unless otherwise stated, all products remain on
the Classy Themes site to allow other customers to purchase it. The
designer determines how long a product will remain in our catalog.
Most themes and templates are purchased several times before being
removed. |
 |
|
| |
When you purchase a theme or template, you are
actually buying a license to use the template. The original designer
retains copyright for the template design and layout. The content you
add, along with any of your own images which you may add later are
under your copyright. |
 |
|
 |
No. As long as the template is used in accordance
with the designers license agreement, you are not required to give
copyright credit. Please remember, however, that the copyright of the
template design and layout does continue to be held by the designer.

 |
|
 |
Each templates is designed with a specific color
scheme that best coordinates with the included graphics. The colors
of template elements such as the navigation buttons, background, and
other graphic elements are typically not easily modified by the
customer. If you need a different color scheme, we recommend
contacting the designer of that template package to discuss their
availability in making the changes that you need. Please note that
most of the designers will change an additional fee to make template
modifications. |
 |
|
 |
In most cases, no. Templates come with pre-designed
layouts, images, and Theme components which are difficult for the
average user to customize and modify. However, you may create more
pages and add your own text and images in the content areas. Some
templates do come with customizable pieces -- for example, some
templates may come with Swish files for a Swish movie, customizable
"blank" images for certain areas of the template, or allow you to
change text within a Flash movie. Please see the individual product
details to see what additional components are included. |

|
 |
Templates are by default installed into the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033 folder. If you
use a foreign-language version of Microsoft Office and FrontPage, you
may not have a "1033" folder. Look for the ID number that corresponds
to your language on the Microsoft web site at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q221435.
For example, French is 1036 and Spanish is 1034.
Close FrontPage, then open the 1033 folder. If your product came with
a web template, click into the Webs folder. You should see a folder
there with the template files for your product. Move this folder into
your Microsoft Office\Templates\xxxx\Webs folder.
If your product came with a page template, do the same thing by
clicking into the Pages folder and move it into your languages Pages
folder.
Now, open FrontPage again and go to File > New > Page or Web. In the
right column, select Web Site Templates (or Page Templates if you are
going to use a page template). The template should now appear in your
list of web templates. |

This is a problem that has recently come to our attention. We have
found that this issue appears when Windows XP or Windows 2000 Pro
users have downloaded and installed FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
security patch #KB813379
from Microsoft Update. This issue does not occur with all templates.
We believe that the issue may occur when FrontPage 2000, upon first
creation of the web from a template, is unable to include .swf related
files or other non-htm files. We are continuing to do testing to see
if we can find the exact type of files or process causing the error.
Please check back to this support article for updated information.
ClassyThemes support can provide a .zip file that contains a
pre-built version of the web that the template creates. But, we
recommend trying the following workarounds first, which may save you
some time.
Upgrade FrontPage: (Easiest)
The easiest and best solution is to upgrade from FrontPage 2000 to
FrontPage 2002 or FrontPage 2003. This problem does not occur in
FrontPage 2002 or 2003. We recommend FrontPage 2003, which will allow
you to take advantage of the newest functions of Microsoft's premier
web design tool. We have found FrontPage 2003 to be much superior and
to work better on Windows XP or Windows 2000 Pro. Plus, Microsoft will
be discontinuing support for FrontPage 2000 as of June 2004. With
Microsoft ending support for FrontPage 2000 you may see more problems
caused by Security Updates in the future.
Remove the Hotfix: (Less Secure)
Another quick way to work around this issue is to remove the hotfix
that is causing the problem. Doing so will remove the protection
offered by the hotfix. The hotfix addresses an issue with IIS and
FrontPage 2000 Server extensions on your local machine. Most users do
not use or need these running. The patch is applied whether these are
enabled or not. If you believe that this would compromise your
security in an unacceptable way, we recommend that you not do this.
The steps to remove the hotfix are as follows:
- Navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/
Remove Programs.
- Within the list of currently installed programs, find Hotfix #KB813379.
This is the patch that is the cause of the problem.
- Select the item and click the "Remove" button.
If you remove the hotfix, please confirm that IIS and FrontPage
2000 Extensions have been disabled on your system. To confirm that
they have been disabled, please do the following:
- Navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/
Remove Programs. Click on "Add/ Remove Windows
Components."
- Find "Internet Information Services (IIS). This should be
unchecked.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish
You should now be able to build a web with the template. We
recommend that you should turn Windows' automatic updates feature off
until you upgrade FrontPage 2000 or until Microsoft addresses this
issue with a revised patch. You may still use Window's update if you
carefully remove the patch from the installation files. To turn off
automatic update:
- Navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel >
Automatic Updates
- Uncheck the box that says "Keep my computer up to
date."
Manually Extract and Move Files: (Secure)
We have been able to devise a way for FrontPage 2000 to build a web
site using a template with the security patch installed. This will
require you to perform an operation on the template itself. The
instructions are as follows:
- Go to the directory where the templates are located. By default
they are located at: c:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Templates\1033\Webs
- Your template will be in a folder called yourtemplate.tem. Open
this folder.
- Find the file with the .inf extension and open it in notepad.
You will see a listing of the files needed for FrontPage to
compile your site. You will find files that have the .swf, .swi,
and maybe .sbk file extensions. Delete these lines only. Save the
file and close.
- Now move the .swf, swi, and .sbk out of this directory and on to
your desktop. If these files are in a subdirectory be sure to note
the name of that folder.
- At this point your template should be able to build your new
web.
- After you create a new web from the template, move the .swf, .swi,
.sbk back into your newly created web. If these files were in a
subdirectory originally, be certain to put them in a subdirectory
with the correct name.
- With luck, you should be able to start editing your new web.
Request ClassyThemes Support Workaround:
You can send an email to ClassyThemes
support reporting that you're having this problem. Support will
send a .zip file that contains a pre-built version of the web that the
template creates. You will open the web using File... Open Web. – OR
– They can send you an altered template that will require manual
placement of files to get the web started. These altered
template/solutions are not recommended and therefore not the version
we offer for 'normal' download, in the store. When we have a solid
solution to this problem we will take the necessary steps to upgrade
the affected templates. Keep in mind that we will be as timely as
possible. We can respond within a couple hours during normal working
hours, but it may take up to 36 hours to answer your request. Please
include your username and the product name with your request.
Continuing Research
ClassyThemes is committed to finding an answer to this problem.
We're continuing to research this problem and have contacted Microsoft
to try to find a solid solution. If you find any problems with these
workarounds or find another potential solution, please send that
information to service@ClassyThemes.com.
