FrontPage 2003 Upgrade Issues

ClassyThemes Products are FrontPage 2003 compatible!

If you have purchased or upgraded to FrontPage 2003, congratulations! The advances in this version of Microsoft's WYSIWYG HTML editor are wonderful. All templates you have purchased in the past from ClassyThemes will work with this version. However, Microsoft has changed the directories into which themes and templates are installed. This means that you will manually have to copy your existing themes/templates into the new directory and some templates currently on the site will also require you to follow the directions below to use them in FP2003.

Dynamic Web Templates for FrontPage 2003

Microsoft introduced a new feature in FrontPage 2003, Dynamic Web templates (DWT).  This is a whole new concept in template design and implementation and will allow you to change your website dramatically and often.  Our collection of  DWT's is growing as more and more template designers begin creating them.

New Installation Directories for FrontPage 2003

If you have installed FrontPage 2003, you'll find that some products do not install into the correct directories to allow you to use FP2003 (this applies to the retail version; users of the beta version will not have any problems with the current files). Over 90% of all products on our site have been converted into the correct format. If you have installed the new retail version of FrontPage 2003, we've provided the instructions below for how to transfer the template or theme files into the correct directories for any templates that do not automatically install for you.

Older Versions of FrontPage - Lost Templates?

If you "custom installed" the retail version of FrontPage 2003 and specified it to keep your older version(s) of FrontPage (2000 or 2002/XP), you'll find that all your old templates and themes seem to be "lost." Don't worry -- the files are still there, but by installing 2003, your older versions of FrontPage are also affected. The older versions will look in the 2003-related directories for themes, page templates, and web templates. Please see the instructions below to learn how to move your theme and template folders into the correct directories so that you can access them in lower versions of FrontPage (as well as 2003).

Instructions for Moving Theme and Template Directories

The retail version of FrontPage 2003 places the files in different folder names than the folder names used with FP 2000 and 2002.

FrontPage Themes
Old Folder:   ?:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Themes
New Folder:  ?:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Themes11

FrontPage Web Templates
Old Folder:   ?:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Webs
New Folder:  ?:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Webs11

FrontPage Page Templates
Old Folder:   ?:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Pages
New Folder:  ?:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Pages11

If you are using FrontPage 2003 you simply need to copy the contents in EACH of the three "Old Folders" to each respective "New Folder."  We are suggesting you COPY rather than cut and paste, just in case something goes awry in the process.
